Well here we go
We had a trail ride scheduled for April 5th at 8:00am, We meet at McDonalds parking lot in Cordes Juntion. We had six of up going Zeke & his friend (did not get her name) Wayne,Jim,Bill along with myself.
After introductions we selected a trail guide (Jim) and proceeded on our way.
The day started out sunny and warm.We got to our first trail head location and we aired down and locked em up,We came to a stream (I mean a river) that was about 25 feet across every one floated across,The Sammy on the other hand got hung up on a rock (but you should have seen the boulder at least 5 foot high and the water covered it by a foot or so) .The mandatory bring list didn't say anything about bringing propellers,Well after putting on my scuba gear and diving into the icy water too hook up, I thought I was ready too be pulled out,The team on the other hand wasn't done laughing and ribbing me not to mention the cameras (was cameras on the bring along list?).
Well they finally pulled me out and after draining the water out we proceeded...no wait didn't somebody have a dead battery..hmmm ring a bell Wayne? After a tug he was going again and we proceeded on our adventure.
The next leg of the journey brought us to a mountain that was absolute boulders (huge) the plan was to ascend up this thing , Well you guessed it the Sammy was sitting and teetering on top of one of the biggest I had ever seen mammoth boulders, Well after more ridicule and yes pictures they were ready to ease me down so we hooked up and then....off comes the luggage rack (the Sammy manual didn't warn of this!),But that is another story.
We then proceeded to our next destination and on the way our guide Jim told us the history of the area and did a fine job at that. Every one was so nice to me warning me of all the Sammy eating rocks (I think I was teased) ahead but I made it through.
We got to another spot that had a stream running through it and decided to rest up and streach,As I looked around at everyone, We had bill panning for gold, Zeke getting ate by a dog, My girls were swimming,Wayne looking at the scratches on the toyota, Jim still being a good guide and telling of the the long worms that have noise makers on their ends that dwell the area, girls back in the jeep And Wayne get off the truck, He was kiddin???
We then proceeded to another spot to have a picnic, Don't think for a moment that went well, Remember my Sammy bathing in the water well my sandwich bread was also dripping, Not to worry we still have cheese and bologna,Or do I?, Seems my fancy electric cooler was on heat instead of cold, Not to worry the girls wanted chips anyway. After snacking everyone looked over all the vehicles and had a story to tell about them, Then it became windy so off we went.
We got to a fork in the road and Jim was way ahead of us but he said bear left, The girls and I looked but didn't see any.
There was a dead end trail that was about a mile so it was decided to explore it, More water and Sammy eating rocks, It was a pretty scenic with wild flowers and cattle grazing, We had mountains on each side and bills head out the window looking in the water for gold, Obove were Eagles in flight.
Toward the end of the adventure we were coming up to a river called Aqua Fria
Tension was high because if it was not passable it was going to be a long way home either 4 hours south or 6 hours north to get around it, Luck was with us and we proceeded through the treacherous water from @#%$ , Then we parked and tossed rocks in the mud that was very deep, So deep that nobody wanted to try it. We then had a challenge to see who could hit the barrel in the ravine. Well all in all it was an endeavor for sure and my Sammy made it back alive to try again.
Lets all make it to next months trail clean up on May 5th. Jeff Srock
